The first three months of 2024 have reinforced the need to get organized. Just like 2023 was a hot year for the labour movement, 2024 is shaping up to be even hotter.

We’re up against some formidable challenges this year; the skyrocketing cost-of-living and runaway inflation, a provincial government chronically underfunding public services so they can make a case to privatize them, a worsening climate crisis, and the rise of the far-right into mainstream populist politics.

Alone, these challenges seem unsurmountable. But when we come together, there’s nothing we can’t achieve. People all over Ontario are realizing the need to get organized, to join a movement to fight against the status quo, and for their right to not just survive but thrive. That’s why OPSEU/SEFPO is growing!

We’ve welcomed many new members in the first few months of 2024. These new members range from psychologists, social workers, child and youth workers, nurses, and therapists to lawyers in community legal clinics. We continue to grow our Hospital Professionals Division in a formidable way with pharmacy, medical laboratory, and diagnostic imaging professionals from hospitals across Ontario. If this is you – welcome! We can’t wait to organize, fight and win with you!

Welcoming new members into our union builds our power to fight and win against Ford’s privatization and anti-worker agenda. It’s going to take all OPSEU/SEFPO members, the broader labour movement, and our communities.

Check out our new member organizing victories from 2024 below.

When we organize, we win. Let’s go!

In solidarity,

JP Hornick, President
Laurie Nancekivell, First Vice-President/Treasurer
