On June 30, 2022, the two homes located in Bracebridge and Huntsville merged to become the new District of Muskoka Long-Term Care Facility.
When workplaces merge in the healthcare sector, it triggers the province’s Public Sector Labour Relations Transition Act (PSLRTA), giving these workers an opportunity to choose which union will represent their newly merged bargaining unit. Voting took place on April 4 & 5, 2023 where ballots cast were overwhelmingly in favour of OPSEU/SEFPO.
Sector 8 (Long Term Care) Chair Joan Corradetti welcomed the new members, “It’s a pleasure to welcome you to OPSEU/SEFPO Local 305 where you are joining a group of dedicated members who, like yourselves, have endured the recent rollercoaster years, while providing compassionate care and services for all your residents.”
Our friends at the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA) will be representing the registered nurses and OPSEU/SEFPO will now represent all other employees at the District of Muskoka Long Term Care Facilities OPSEU/SEFPO Local 305.
“We are thrilled with the results and are honoured to welcome our newest members at the District of Muskoka Long Term Care Facility to OPSEU/SEFPO,” said OPSEU/SEFPO President JP Hornick. “Whether you’ve been an OPSEU/SEFPO member from the start, or are just joining us, thank you for choosing us. We can’t wait to work with you!”
