This year’s theme: Women, Life, Freedom!
These three words are a poignant rallying cry in Iran. In September ’22, protests in Iran escalated following the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22 year-old woman brutally murdered by authorities for breaching the nation’s strictly enforced dress code. So far, hundreds of people have been killed in protests for speaking out against their government. Nevertheless, Iranian women continue to courageously raise their scarves in defiance.
To honour the spirit of these protests, and to speak out against violence, systemic oppression, and all forms of gender discrimination in Iran and around the world, this chant has been adopted as this year’s IWD March and Rally theme.
This year we come together to say: freedom for women means freedom for all!
Have your say at the Equal Pay Coalition’s Speakers’ Corner!
The Equal Pay Coalition will be hosting a Speakers’ Corner to record attendees as they share their thoughts on why we must close the gender pay gap and why #PrivatizationHurtsWomen. The responses will be shared on social media leading up to Equal Pay Day on April 4.
If you can’t make the march, you can also submit a short video on or before Friday, March 17, 2023 to the Equal Pay Coalition’s Google Drive using this link.
