Title: Negotiator – 2 positions
Location: Head Office
Start Date: To be determined
Salary: $1,687.00 to $1,875.00 per week (Range 4 – Pro-Tech)
Working Conditions: As provided in the OPSSU Collective Agreement

Applicants interested in applying must be able to fulfill the following qualifications listed below:

Principal Duties:

To provide expert opinion, advice, guidance and advocacy for bargaining and dispute resolution to staff, members and teams:

  • Represents members, units and locals in bargaining or contract dispute resolution forums in an advocacy/spokesperson   role, including, but not limited to: collective bargaining, job classification systems review, pay equity.
  • Provides leadership for various bargaining teams, members, units, locals or divisional committees or meetings.
  • Provides expert advice, opinion and training to staff and members and Executive Board members, bargaining teams, including, but not limited to; bargaining/dispute resolution issues, job classification systems review, and pay equity.
  • Develops and writes contract/dispute settlement language.
  •  Researches and prepares arguments and proposals for the collective bargaining and related processes.
  • Develops new, innovative bargaining/dispute resolution strategies and positions.
  • Negotiates Collective Agreements and pay equity plans.
  • Uses complex calculations, e.g. wage and benefits costing, retroactivity.

Qualifications:

  • Requires an undergraduate degree (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) and three years of related work experience.
  • Requires demonstrated advocacy skills and a demonstrated commitment to Labour/Social Democratic philosophy.
  • Requires a working knowledge of structures, practices and procedures of employer groups, the Ministries, Affiliates and the GSB, OLRB, Tribunal(s). e.g. Pay Equity Commission.
  •  Requires continuous ongoing formal/informal updating on bargaining trends and techniques, case law, economic and political trends, settlements and related labour legislation.
  • Requires updating on computer software packages. Uses Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Collective Agreement database, Membership database, and Grievance database.
