Pride Hamilton 2025: Region 2 Coalition of Racialized Workers is pleased to share and report on our sponsorship of Pride Hamilton 2025 and are especially honoured to have participated in the incredible work of the organizers of Pride Hamilton 2025. The callout to OPSEU/SEFPO members was posted on OPSEU/SEFPO website.As part of CoRW’s aims and goals to support Black and Racialized members within the union and the community, we recognize the intersectionality that connects us and we are proud that Pride Hamilton 2025 welcomed us in our shared values and respect. Region 2 CoRW is especially proud to support Black and Racialized 2SLGBTQIA+ OPSEU/SEFPO members.Pride Hamilton 2025 organizers welcomed R2 CoRW to share a space to showcase OPSEU/SEFPO CoRW materials with a booth space for our tents where they provided us with tables and chairs at the event on August 8 and 9, 2025. They provided CoRW a space where OPSEU/SEFPO members can attend, participate, and support. Their theme of “Reclamation, Unity, and Healing,” was truly a generous family and community event where everyone was welcomed and greeted by eager volunteers sharing rainbow themed stickers and great cheer.Region 2 CoRW Chair, Maxwell Onukwufor was joined by Executive Board Member, Aisha Jahangir, on site at 64 Leander Drive, Hamilton on August 8, 2025 to setup the Rainbow Alliance Arc-En-Ciel tent (courtesy of Vikki Porier, R2 Executive Board Member and Rainbow Alliance Arc-En-Ciel) in our booth in solidarity with our shared representation of OPSEU/SEFPO 2SLGBTQIA+ OPSEU/SEFPO members and Black and Racialized members.

Maxwell and Aisha handed out CoRW materials and CoRW branded markers to attendees and engaged with attendees for this exciting opening day of Pride Hamilton 2025. “
I really enjoyed the opportunity to meet and discuss equity issues with members within the community. A beautiful and well-organized event. Thanks for the invitation and opportunity to show solidarity with Pride Hamilton 2025.” Aisha shared her gratitude for being able to participate with CoRW OPSEU/SEFPO.

On August 9, 2025, Rosemarie Hall, R2 CoRW Co-Chair was joined by R2 CoRW Secretary, Yvonne Hinds, and volunteer, Dave, at the CoRW/Rainbow Alliance booths. Yvonne collected over 90 signatures at Pride Hamilton 2025 for the “Worth Fighting For” campaign on behalf of OPSEU/SEFPO workers to get their fair rate of pay from the Ford government.Here we are OPSEU/SEFPO Coalition of Racialized Workers and Rainbow Alliance Arc-En-Eiel side by side in solidarity.
CoRW Region 2 felt welcome in this loving space at this important event to showcase the Committee’s work and to engage with attendees at the event who were very eager to learn more about the Union and the Equity Committees’ work. We met budding activists who wanted to become involved, and many were very engaging and lingered to collect materials, ask questions, share stories, and we were happy to have the contact information for the Rainbow Alliance Arc-En-Ciel committee representatives to share.Students and recent graduates who were looking forward to entering the workplace and expressed concern about the working conditions that they may face stopped by to chat. An especially remarkable group of young workers stopped by shared their efforts to find meaningful and stable employment. They were very supportive of each other and talked about their job searching efforts was now at the point where they have been reaching out to potential contact in other cities. This very much resonates that a genuine supportive local network is important and that events like this is held to reach folks within the community they reside.We met current members of CUPE and other union who were very supportive of the “Worth fighting for” campaign and immediately signed the petition. Yvonne also signed a new member to CoRW, Region 2 who were very interested in receiving more information on the Committee’s work.
The general atmosphere that resonated at this Pride event is that this safe space made for a joyful day, hope for acceptance and a feeling of belonging within one’s community. There was love, music, games for the kids at their special tent, art, delicious food, and so much more.
Here, the Region2 CoRW crew are still smiling at the end of a very full day of excitement, engagement and great food.
The Coalition of Racialized Workers is honoured to be part of an event with many other notable allies of 2SLGBTQIA+ family at Pride Hamilton 2025 celebration who welcomed us by displaying CoRW’s logo on the event volunteers’ gear. CoRW will continue to work for inclusion and diversity, human rights and dignity with the encouragement that together as allies in unity and healing, we stand in solidarity with Pride Hamilton 2025 in “Reclamation, Unity, and Healing.”
