Call to Action – How Members can Ensure their Voices are Heard.
On August 14, the Ford government announced it will eliminate hybrid work options across the Ontario Public Service. This decision was made without consultation with OPSEU/SEFPO and without any evidence to support the government’s claims that eliminating hybrid work will improve service to the people of Ontario.For years, Ontario Public Service workers have proven they can deliver high-quality public services under hybrid models. This decision not only ignores the many well-documented benefits of hybrid work – it represents a measurable step backwards within the OPS, leaving workers to take on expensive commutes, disruptions to family and caregiver responsibilities, creates accessibility challenges and reduces work-life balance.
This is not how we build a strong public service. The government should not be pouring taxpayer dollars into costly and arbitrary office mandates when they are already spending more than $1.5 billion to renovate existing offices in Toronto alone, with projects currently behind schedule and over budget. The Ontario government should instead be making evidence-based decisions that prioritize workers, public services, and the people of Ontario.

- Immediately halt the decision to end hybrid work in January 2026, and the decision to require 4-days a week in office starting October 2025. Commit to meeting with unions representing Ontario Public Service workers, including OPSEU/SEFPO.
- Expand flexible, hybrid work arrangements that foster productivity, inclusion, accessibility and sustainability in the Ontario Public Service.
