International Youth Day (IYD) is celebrated globally on August 12. In recognition of the challenges faced by young people around the world, the United Nations announced that the theme for this year’s IYD is “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations”.
The OPSEU/SEFPO Provincial Young Workers Committee (PYC) knows that young people share a common vision of dignity, fair work, and a sustainable future.
Young workers are increasingly faced with the reality of having to work multiple precarious, low-wage jobs just to afford basic living costs.
Many of the 4,000 community and social development workers who are on strike as part of the Worth Fighting For (WFF) campaign are young people who are grappling with precarious work and the cost of living crisis. They have been on the picket lines for twelve weeks because they understand first-hand the need to organize for fair wages, job security, and decent working conditions.
Across our union, young workers are driving change through their involvement in collective bargaining, strike action, and grassroots activism.
All young workers (35 years old and younger) are encouraged to apply to attend the PYC’s Young Workers’ Conference being held from November 6-8, 2026. Applications are due by the end of day on August 14.
