It has been almost a month since Exhibition Place locked out 400 members of IATSE Local 58 from their jobs on the Exhibition grounds. The lockout comes after months of negotiating with an employer seeking to contract out work and cut job security protections. IATSE workers are responsible for staging, rigging and technical support at Toronto Exhibition Place.
As a show of strength and solidarity, the Workers of Colour Caucus did not cross IATSE picket lines during this year’s Caribana Festivities.
With the Exhibition now open – the CNE Board has locked out IATSE Local 58 workers in an attempt to force the union to allow the contracting out of a huge proportion of their work. CNE management – with the active support of Mayor John Tory – is now using scab labour in an attempt to bust the union.
The Workers of Colour Caucus strongly encourages OPSEU members take action in support of IATSE Local 58 members.
Actions you can do:
- Support IATSE Local 58 and sign the petition. Send Mayor John Tory and the CNE Board a Clear Message – It’s time to end the lockout now, end the use of scab labour, and bargain a fair deal that protects good unionized jobs at the CNE.
- Join the IATSE Picket Lines! IATSE is picketing every day throughout the CNE, between 9:30 am and 8 pm, at Lakeshore Blvd. at Strachan. IATSE is asking members of the public to support the fight for decent jobs, and stay away from the CNE while the bosses’ lockout continues.
- Join OPSEU at the Labour Day Parade – to send a clear message to Doug Ford and John Tory that we are “Mobilizing for Justice and Labour Solidarity”!
