OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas made a very strong case for a public cannabis retail network during a Financial Post panel discussion about Doug Ford’s knee-jerk decree that all storefronts should be owned by profit-focussed private businesses.
“As a dad and a granddad, my fear is that [the private stores] will target the 19 to 25-year-old males,” said Thomas. “I don’t trust the private sector to not be driven by profits instead of by safety. The public model is safer.”
