To address some recent questions and concerns, your bargaining team would like to provide an update on our recent arbitration hearing.
Interest arbitration is a formal dispute‑resolution mechanism used when parties negotiating a collective agreement reach an impasse and cannot resolve outstanding issues through bargaining alone.
A neutral third-party arbitrator is appointed to review the outstanding proposals, consider evidence and arguments from both sides, and ultimately, issue a binding decision that sets the terms of the new agreement.
Our arbitration hearing took place on January 26, 2026. The employer and union bargaining team and nominees – our nominee Michelle Dawson Haber, and the employer’s nominee Ryan Wood – met with Arbitrator Brian Sheehan. During this session, both parties presented their positions, on all matters still in dispute.
Your team stayed strong and we are currently awaiting Arbitrator Sheehan’s decision.
We anticipate receiving the Arbitrator’s decision sometime in April or May. We will keep you informed on the status of the decision and once the decision is issued, we will communicate the outcome.
In solidarity,
Your Bargaining Team
