We are writing to provide an important update regarding the status of bargaining.
Your bargaining team recently met with the employer from April 21st to 24th for a series of exploratory discussions. These meetings were scheduled after the employer signaled an interest in discussing the potential merger of the Plasma collective agreement into the Support (Whole Blood – WB) collective agreement, prompting both parties to come together to assess whether there is a path forward on this and other key outstanding issues.
The potential merger of the Plasma collective agreement into the Support (WB) collective agreement is a significant proposal. Your bargaining teams are approaching these discussions carefully to ensure that any potential changes protect and strengthen the rights and working conditions of all members affected, while fully considering the impacts across both groups.
Following these meetings, your bargaining teams have made the decision to continue discussions with the employer at our upcoming dates in May. To be clear, no agreements have been reached – however, there was enough progress to warrant further engagement.
One of the key topics raised at the table relates to scheduling, specifically the introduction of a Tuesday to Sunday schedule for new centres. The employer has signaled that their intent is to eventually have all Donor Collection Centres operate under this model. The employer has indicated that any implementation at existing Donor centres will occur gradually, with an emphasis on a slow and measured rollout. Your bargaining teams are closely reviewing this issue and understands the potential impact on members and takes this very seriously. We will do our best to ensure that any changes are reasonable and properly negotiated.
To ensure that members are informed and have an opportunity to ask questions, we have scheduled a virtual town hall meeting for May 14th from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. This is an opportunity for your bargaining teams to provide you with further context andshare more updates. We also want to hear directly from you – what are your questions, concerns and ideas?
Following the town hall, a frequently asked questions (FAQ) document will be shared to address common concerns and provide additional clarity. In the meantime, we are always available to connect directly with you to answer questions and discuss any concerns you may have.
Our next bargaining dates are May 13th to 15th, and May 25th to 28th. Should discussions continue to progress well, there is also the potential to add further bargaining dates, including potential mediation or arbitration dates in July to help move the process forward.
As always, we encourage members to stay engaged and informed. Your continued solidarity and involvement are critical as we work toward achieving a collective agreement that reflects your priorities and protects your interests.
We will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
