Black History Month Statement & Event – CoRW
February 9, 2026
Black History Month is a time to recognize, honour, celebrate and reflect on the vast contributions made. The tireless courage, strength, resilience, and visions of Black people throughout history and today are evident in society’s day-to-day lives. Black communities have shaped culture, science, healthcare, education, and social justice, often while facing systemic, structural barriers and injustice. As we celebrate and acknowledge this Black History Month, let us remind ourselves that it is not separate but an essential part of our history. Black History Month encourages us to learn from the past, embrace the future, celebrate achievements, and continue working toward equity, equality, inclusion, and respect for all. We do this by making space, listening to Black voices, acknowledging lived experiences, and standing up against discrimination. In doing so, we continue to strive to create a more just and compassionate future.Black History Month is not only about remembrance, but also a call to action—supporting equality, uplifting communities, and committing to meaningful change year-round as we call on young, old, active, inactive, differently able, able, allies, and all to stand together in unity for one common goal. Black History is everyday history!
