On January 27, the world observes United Nations International Holocaust Remembrance Day, marking the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1945 and honouring the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust, as well as all victims of Nazi persecution.
In the days leading up to this observance, Jewish members and allies at OPSEU/SEFPO were invited to share reflections, names, or words of remembrance in honour of this important day.
These anonymous reflections have been brought together in a curated collage to mark Holocaust Remembrance Day, a collective moment to remember, reflect, and bear witness.
The Holocaust stands as a stark reminder of the consequences of hatred, antisemitism, and indifference. Remembering this history is essential so that its lessons are not lost, and so that we remain committed to dignity, human rights, and the responsibility to speak out against hate in all its forms.
For those who would like additional background on the United Nations designation of this day, more information is available here: We remember.
