Tell Doug Ford:
Workers and students are united for fair education.
We are the workers and students united.
As college and university workers, as well as community members and neighbours, we are all part of the student movement.
Access to affordable education affects everyone, not just the students. It is the cornerstone of opportunity and social mobility for working class people.
Public education in Ontario is under attack because it disrupts an austerity agenda we are all facing which places priority on profits over people.
The Ford government’s new, two-tiered post-secondary education funding model continues to place us at the bottom amongst provinces, while transferring the burden of paying for education onto students and families who are already struggling.
Graduates will be saddled with even more debt, setting them up for “failure to launch” futures at a time of rising unemployment and a changing job market.
We do not accept their race to the bottom. Our strength is our solidarity: collective action is how we won in the past and it will be how we will win tomorrow!
We, the undersigned, collectively call on Premier Doug Ford to:
- Raise college and university funding to the national average on a permanent, per-student basis;
- Establish a grant-based OSAP model which sets graduates up for success;
- Reverse the tuition increase and return to a funding model prioritizing provincial investment.
