Shana Tova 5786
As we welcome the Jewish New Year, 5786, on Monday evening, September 22, we celebrate a season of renewal, reflection, and hope. Our lunar-solar calendar keeps our holidays connected to the seasons and the rhythms of agriculture, reminding us of cycles of growth and new beginnings.
Rosh Hashanah invites us to look back with self-reflection and gratitude and forward with best intentions and self-improvement. Traditions like eating apples dipped in honey express the wish for a sweet year, while the practice of Tashlikh, symbolically casting away burdens into flowing water, encourages us to release what no longer serves us and make space for what we hope to bring into the year ahead.
One of the central themes of Rosh Hashanah is setting intentions for the new year. During our September 16 online event, attendees shared words and phrases that reflected their hopes and commitments for 5786.
The image is a word cloud created from those contributions, capturing the intentions shared by participants as we enter this new year together.
From all of us at the Jewish Caucus, we wish you a year filled with sweetness, connection, and strength. May 5786 bring renewal, joy, and meaningful moments in your life, in your communities, and across our union.
