In a cost-of-living crisis a 1% wage increase is an insult. Ontario Public Service (OPS) Unified workers are ready to fight for what we deserve!Bill 124 – Ford’s wage-suppressing bill – was deemed unconstitutional and struck down, making it “void and of no effect”. This triggered the wage reopener clause in the OPS Unified Collective Agreement, allowing us to renegotiate wage increases and benefits. The OPS Unified Bargaining Team is heading back to the table on September 23 and they’re fighting for a REAL wage increase that reflects the skyrocketing cost-of-living and the wages that were lost during the Bill 124 era. But at the last meeting, the Ford government didn’t even bring a deal to the table. It’s a slap in the face.Their blatant disrespect for workers can only be reconciled with wage increases. The Ford government’s recent scandals tell us exactly who they’re working for: real estate developers and corporate donors. Ford isn’t for the people. But there is power in numbers. That’s why OPS Unified workers are hosting a rally outside the wage re-opener as a show of support for their demands that will send a clear message to the Ford government: enough is enough! To have impact, they need your support. Will you join them?
When: Saturday, September 23 at noon
Where: Sheraton Centre Hotel at 123 Queen St W. (across from Nathan Phillips Square)
30,000 OPSEU/SEFPO members working in the Ontario Public Service haven’t had a real raise in nearly 10 years – and they’re struggling. Yet the Ford government is determined to gut Ontario’s public services. Severe short staffing is rampant, and this means out of control wildfires and smoke-filled air, unsafe workplaces and cuts across the public sector that affect everyone. In the end all Ontarians will pay the price because of Doug Ford’s attack on public services.OPS Unified workers are demanding fairer wages and better working conditions so they can provide quality public services to the people of Ontario. Join them outside the Sheraton Centre Hotel in downtown Toronto and show this government that we are ready to fight for what we deserve.
