Eleven members and four staff of OPSEU/SEFPO were selected as Member Development Trainees (MDTs) and Staff Development Trainees (SDTs) for this year’s MDT/SDT program, which runs from September to December 2026.

The trainees will fill 15 positions: eight staff representative roles, and one role each of the following: grievance officer, education officer, human rights officer, campaigns officer, negotiator, pay equity negotiator, and IT help desk analyst. They will be mentored throughout the fall by experienced OPSEU/SEFPO staff who hold the same positions.
The MDTs and SDTs attended two weeks of orientation and training in September, where they were welcomed by OPSEU/SEFPO leaders, including President JP Hornick, First Vice-President/Treasurer Laurie Brown, Equity Vice President Dr. Crystal Garvey, and Executive Board Member Veronica Attard. The orientation was coordinated and facilitated by the People and Culture Division and staff from the Member Education and Campaigns Units.

During orientation, the new trainees explored their new roles, met their mentors, and heard from staff and supervisors about OPSEU/SEFPO’s various departments. They also completed an intensive four-day Train the Trainer course, and a one-day Organizing to Win course. Later in the fall, they will complete facilitator training for the Dismantling Systemic Racism Program (DSRP).
OPSEU/SEFPO congratulates the 2026 MDTs and SDTs and welcomes them to their new roles!
