Beginning May 1, dozens of OPSEU activists and staff will be hitting the road as part of NUPGE's All Together Now Fairness Express Tour. The big green bus will be visiting a community near you to share the message that there are solutions to growing income inequality in Canada.
NUPGE launched the Fairness Express National Tour in September 2013 with a six week tour through Atlantic Canada. The bus traveled across four provinces, talking to Atlantic Canadians about the impact of income inequality on their lives.
"People are frustrated and looking for ways to act, to make a difference" says National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) President James Clancy "now, with the Fairness Express, they can see how we are building this grassroots movement for fairness right in their own community."
Now the Fairness Express is gearing up for a seven week tour through Ontario that will visit dozens of communities and continue the conversations started in Atlantic Canada.
As the bus rolls through Ontario communities, it will bring its fun-filled, carnival atmosphere to a wide variety of community events and locations such as parades, yard sales, festivals, campuses, and beaches.
The tour's goal is to reach out to as many Canadians as possible to inspire them to help change what is taking place in our country. It is a serious goal, but that does not mean there cannot be fun along the way!
"The first leg of the tour was a fantastic success, and OPSEU is excited and proud to be part of such an innovative grassroots campaign" says OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas.
"Income inequality is a serious problem in this province and our activists cannot wait to get out into the community to have this discussion with Ontarians. It is important that we let them know that solutions are within their grasp. Together we can turn the tide."
