This week, OPSEU/SEFPO proudly recognizes National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week — a time to recognize the critical work of Ambulance Communication Officers and Ornge Communication Officers across Ontario.
Every day, these members provide calm in times of chaos. They are the first point of contact in emergencies, guiding callers through fear and uncertainty while coordinating life-saving responses behind the scenes. Whether supporting land ambulance services or coordinating critical care transport through Ornge, their work demands focus, compassion, and resilience in the face of constant pressure—often without the visibility or recognition they deserve.
Ambulance Communication Officers and Ornge Communication Officers are an essential part of Ontario’s healthcare and emergency response system. They ensure the right resources are deployed at the right time, support paramedic and air ambulance crews, and play a direct role in saving lives across our communities — including in remote and northern regions where access to care depends on their expertise.
At OPSEU/SEFPO, we recognize not only the importance of this work, but also the importance of supporting those who do it. This week, we reflect on the contributions of these members and reaffirm our commitment to advocating for safer working conditions, better supports, and the respect they deserve.
To all Ambulance Communication Officers and Ornge Communication Officers: thank you for your professionalism, your strength, and your unwavering dedication to the people of Ontario. Your work matters, and your union stands with you.
