The Bargaining Team remains focused on making improvements to wages, benefits and working conditions while pushing back on the employers’ concessions. As communicated in LockTalk 18, in an effort to continue to bring this round of bargaining to a close, we applied for conciliation. On November 6th a conciliation officer was appointed by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. Our next scheduled bargaining dates are November 25th and 26th. We will continue to provide updates through LockTalk as the bargaining process progresses.
What is conciliation?
Conciliation is a formal step under Ontario labour law that would bring in a government-appointed conciliation officer from the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. The conciliation officer’s role is to assist both sides in reaching a settlement. If conciliation does not result in an agreement, the conciliation officer can issue what’s known as a “no-board report.” This is required to move to the next stage of bargaining — Arbitration.Remember: LockTalk is your only official source of accurate bargaining information.
