International Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) occurs every year on March 31. This day is dedicated to celebrating transgender people, their contributions to society and raising awareness of discrimination they face.
The pandemic caused uncertainty and disconnection for the Trans community. Gender affirming procedures were put on hold and community supports were difficult to reach during the lockdown.
That’s why this year’s TDOV is a special one – restrictions are lifted and the renewal of spring fast approaches. The community can re-connect outside of their homes and get back to living with pride.
In that spirit, let’s celebrate the transgender community!
Let’s recognize transgender contributions, successes, and relentless resilience in standing tall and strong in the face of injustice. Through this day of visibility, we hope to prompt moral responsibility and acceptance, and lift the restrictions on the rights of transgender people.
On TDOV, let’s shine a light on transgender rights: talk about Trans issues and accomplishments in the workplace; share an empowering Trans individual on social media; update your profile picture to the Trans flag; and include your pronouns beside your signature or name during a virtual meeting to show solidarity.
The Trans community is your community! Singers, athletes, models and politicians… the list goes on.
