As part of a recent settlement with the Government, it was agreed that the Short Term Sickness Plan (STSP) will revert to the provisions in effect prior to April 1, 2013.
You may remember that prior to April 2013 as an OPS employee, sick days after the initial six (6), regardless of the seriousness of the cause, were paid at 75%. Effective April 1, 2013, this changed and only conditions that were considered "severe" or serious and chronic were paid at the 75% level. If it did not meet the severe or serious and chronic criteria, then you received only 66 2/3% of your pay.
Effective January 27, 2017, those members who have access to STSP, and are unable to work due to illness or injury (regardless of severity or seriousness) will be paid at 75% after the first six (6) days of absence in any year.
Because of this change, the STSP form will no longer be required.
For those who started their leave prior to the effective date, in order to receive the 75% pay, you will still need to submit the STSP form (if eligible) to receive the increased pay.
Please note, that this change doesn't effect any other provisions. If needed or requested a medical certificate or health information will still need to be submitted to support your absence.
