Bargaining Update
Since May of this year, your HPD bargaining team has sat down with the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) through negotiations, conciliation and mediation. We have stood firm in our commitment to fight for the issues that matter the most to hospital professionals across Ontario while dealing with an employer who wants us to do more with less.Throughout negotiations, our approaches to bargaining for a better health care system have been rooted in different priorities. Your bargaining team has tabled proposals based in long-term solutions to the recruitment and retention crisis that keeps us overworked and understaffed while the OHA has tabled substandard wage increases and proposals that would have us stretched further than we already are.For these reasons, we have been unable to reach an agreement and are now preparing to take unresolved monetary and non-monetary items to interest arbitration.
Interest Arbitration
During interest arbitration, a neutral third-party will review submissions and evidence from the HPD bargaining team and the Ontario Hospital Association on the items that we have not been able to settle during our negotiations. The arbitrator will then issue a final and binding decision on the outstanding issues – marking the end of this round of negotiations. As of this update, we are still waiting for an arbitrator to be assigned and dates for interest arbitration to be scheduled. In the meantime, your bargaining team will be working hard with OPSEU/SEFPO researchers and negotiators to prepare our submissions. We will keep you posted as news regarding the arbitration process becomes available.
