Sundown on Monday marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year celebration, Rosh Hashanah. Across Ontario and around the world, Jewish people and families will gather in the spirit of optimism and hope, eating apples and honey in the hopes of a sweet year ahead.
It will likely be another challenging year. But just as Ontarians and OPSEU/SEFPO’s members have come together to get the province through COVID-19 as safely as possible, we are confident that we’ll continue to help all our communities emerge from the pandemic stronger than ever.
Rosh Hashanah also marks the beginning of the Days of Awe or the Jewish High Holy Days and lasts for a 10-day period that culminates with Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year, the Day of Atonement. During the high holidays the Jewish people reflect on the personal aspects of the past year, decide how to improve, seek forgiveness for any wrongdoing and show compassion to others.
For all those members celebrating this holy time of year, thank you for all of your courage, dedication, and resolve over the past year, and may this year bring you and your family peace, love, and prosperity.
Shanah Tovah!
