As you are aware, OPSEU filed a central Ontario Public Service (OPS) policy grievance on August 24, 2017 alleging that the manner in which the Employer would be implementing salary progressions as of January 1, 2018 (when the “pay freeze” was removed) was improper; the Correctional bargaining unit filed a similar grievance on February 12, 2018. Many OPSEU members filed individual grievances alleging that the Employer failed to properly implement their own merit increase/salary progression; these grievances are being held in abeyance while OPSEU resolves the Union grievances (Unified and Corrections).
On July 24, 2018, we attended the Grievance Settlement Board (GSB) in order to attempt to resolve the Union grievances. Unfortunately (but not surprisingly), the Employer was unwilling to resolve the grievances in any manner that would be beneficial to OPSEU members.
As such, we have set two new hearing dates (in March and June, 2019) to litigate the grievances. OPSEU does not expect that there will be any further updates between now and the receipt of an arbitral award in this matter, but we will continue to keep you posted.
