OPSEU is the largest public sector union in Ontario with over 130,000 members in over 500 bargaining units. That includes more than 40,000 members who work in health care.
Our members are supported by a staff of 350 professionals in 21 offices across Ontario. Your staff representative works with your Local on day to day issues and she is supported by staff who are experts in Health and Safety, Grievances and Arbitration, Member Training, Pension and Benefits, Organizing, Campaigns, Research, Legal etc.
Only OPSEU has “carriage rights”. Other unions have complicated processes for getting a grievance approved. OPSEU members have the right to file a grievance and to have it carried – no Local committee or representative can deny you the right to grieve.
OPSEU has dues that are among the lowest in the whole country! No flat fee, no minimum, no extra charges! All of the services you may need are paid for.
OPSEU Local 581 – Office and Clerical Employees at the Scarborough Hospital – was certified in 1975!
Local 581 is part of OPSEU’s Hospital Support Sector and OPSEU’s Health Care Divisional Council. The sector is supported by a Research Officer and Negotiator. OPSEU members from Hospital Support also participate in various other committees – e.g. the RPN Committee.
