The OPSEU/SEFPO Provincial Young Workers Committee (PYC) is proud to congratulate all participants who successfully completed the Young Workers Mentorship Program. We also extend congratulations to the four mentees who took the next step in their union involvement by running for positions on the Provincial Young Workers Committee as alternates or representatives.
Over the past eight months, young workers from across the province have taken part in the mentorship program, working closely with mentors to develop projects focused on education, engagement, and advocacy within the union. The program concluded with a series of presentations delivered to members of the PYC and fellow participants, highlighting both the learning journey and leadership growth of each mentee.
The presentations showcased a wide range of topics and perspectives. Projects included the creation of an informative resource on the LCBO collective agreement and workers’ rights, as well as initiatives centered on cultural awareness, including Diwali, and social advocacy efforts such as Period Promise.
Additional projects explored key areas such as navigating union structures within OPSEU/SEFPO, addressing barriers faced by young workers, and providing accessible education on the role and importance of unions.
The diversity and depth of these projects highlight the strength of the mentorship model in supporting young workers to build confidence, develop skills, and contribute meaningfully to their union. Through collaboration with mentors, participants transformed ideas into practical tools and educational resources that can benefit members across the organization.
The Young Workers Mentorship Program continues to play an important role in fostering engagement and developing future leaders within OPSEU/SEFPO. By creating structured opportunities for learning and participation, the program supports the continued growth and inclusion of young workers across the union.
