Message from the rally organizers:
Join the Association of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario, the Ontario Coalition for Better Child Care, and the Toronto Community for Better Child Care at Queen’s Park in Toronto, Ontario on Wednesday, November 30th to call on the Ontario government for a workforce strategy!
Child care programs need adequate resources to recruit and retain educators and other staff in licensed child care, provide good jobs with fair wages and decent working conditions, and ensure that families have the care and early learning they need. A child care staffing shortage, driven by low wages, is threatening the accessibility of child care for families. Across Ontario, child care centres are closing rooms and limiting enrolment because they cannot retain staff in their programs.
We need a workforce strategy that includes:
- A real salary scale starting at $25 per hour for all child care workers and $30 per hour for
- Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs);
- Benefits and pensions;
- Paid sick days;
- Professional development time;
- Paid programming time.

On November 30, Child Care Now Day of Action events will be taking place across Canada and online, coordinated by child care action groups affiliated with Child Care Now.
OPSEU/SEFPO represents many child care workers in our membership. And we also represent tens of thousands of workers whose families need access to quality child care. Let’s all join together to demand Better Pay, Better Quality, and Better Access to child care!
