For the first time in Ontario’s history, part-time and sessional college faculty are heading to the bargaining table with the College Employer Council (CEC).
The parties, union and employer, have agreed to the following bargaining dates to start, with negotiations beginning next week:
- April 28-29, 2026
- May 27, 2026
- June 2, 2026
At the end of this bargaining round, we will have a first-ever province-wide collective agreement outlining all our wages, working conditions, and more.
We win the agreement which we are willing to fight for, and it will be a fight. That much is clear from our employer’s long-time pushback on our right to unionize, alongside lessons from college workers’ previous bargaining rounds.
So long as we are divided – from knowing each other, supporting each other, fighting together – the employer wins. It’s why we are doing things differently: building the terrain needed to shift power and win.
For the past weeks, we have travelled the province, speaking directly with members, asking each other what we think it’s going to take to win, and building new bridges with support staff and faculty alike.
Precarious work is on the rise, and that includes across the college system. Now, more than ever, is the time to be all-in; we need to fortify our solidarity to bargain a first agreement which raises the floor for workers everywhere.
Keep an eye on your email for timely bargaining updates, as we will also share bargaining documents and proposals developed around member-set priorities.
For over twenty years, part-time and sessional faculty have been organizing to get to this moment, stretching back to long before part-time college workers in Ontario even had the right to bargain collectively or unionize.
