Your College Faculty Part-Time and Sessional Bargaining Team met with the College Employer Council (CEC) today to continue negotiations towards a first part-time and sessional faculty collective agreement.
We tabled four new non-monetary proposals—Employment Equity (U-4), Relationship (U-5), Union Deduction (U-6), No Strike And No Lock-out (U-7).
The CEC also tabled what they call a “comprehensive” non-monetary proposal, M1. You can review it here—and ask yourself, comprehensive to whom?
Their proposal is silent on key structural issues—the same silence which has created a college system running on precarious labour and the management rights ensuring it can continue to do so.
The CEC wants to control the pace of bargaining so that it is advantageous to them. Since Day 1 at the table, they have made clear their priority is securing a “flexible”—in other words, precarious—workforce.
Priorities which members have identified for years—job security, ending unpaid work, smaller class sizes—are not compatible with the employer’s vision.
We are crafting proposals with the aim of our vision, which puts workers first. In pursuit of this, we tabled language today aimed at dismantling barriers to equitable employment.
We also offered bargaining dates into mid-November to continue this work, as well as tentative dates into April 2027 subsequent to the colleges releasing their winter term schedules. The parties have now agreed to the following dates:
- September 28, 2026
- October 28, 2026
- November 16, 2026
The employer has indicated that they will not address our proposals without a “comprehensive” package in return, which ignores the realities of negotiating a first collective agreement with the nuance required in a workplace as complex as the Ontario public college system.
This is an opportunity: we are laying the foundation for a collective agreement which can address and remedy the worsening structural issues faced by contract college faculty.
It requires meaningful discussion at each step of the process: every proposal must be a building block towards a better Ontario public college system.
Our next date at the table is September 28, 2026. In the meantime, you can find all bargaining documents and proposals on our bargaining hub here.
In solidarity,
