Your College Faculty Part-Time and Sessional Bargaining Team met for the seventh session of negotiations with the College Employer Council (CEC) yesterday. A bargaining summary follows below.
We tabled three new proposals – U10 Grievance and Arbitration Procedures; U11 No Discrimination/Bullying/Harassment; U12 Employee Records. These new proposals:
- provide a structured grievance and arbitration process, with defined response timelines;
- ensure that members have the option to bring a support person and/or an Indigenous Elder/Traditional Knowledge Keeper to meetings in said process;
- introduce proactive protections from discrimination, bullying, and all forms of harassment, as well as education and reporting mechanisms – in recognition of a higher representation of racialized faculty in our bargaining unit;
- and establish clear guidelines regarding the access, maintenance, accuracy, confidentiality, and retention of an employee’s record.
We re-iterated our request for a response to our previous proposals, as well as disclosure of colleges’ Technological Change information. This context is critical to informed bargaining — including the ability to forecast what bargaining unit work may be at risk of automation or displacement.
The employer has expressed an inability to bargain or respond to our proposals without receiving a “full package” from the union. We are concerned by this sentiment when the “comprehensive non-monetary package” provided by the employer in August is an eleven (11) page document.
For context, the current full-time and partial-load collective agreement is one-hundred sixty-one (161) pages.
Throughout this round, we have made every effort to jumpstart bargaining amidst the challenging realities our members face, including precarity, high turnover, and the need to balance multiple jobs.
Members have a democratic right to engage in a process shaping their futures. It means that every conversation, town hall, and organizing effort — alongside our proposals — form the building blocks of our new agreement.
Local demand sets are well underway, building on our initial priority-setting meeting on June 18, 2026. The process will culminate in a joint Final Demand Set coordinated with our full-time and partial-load colleagues on December 5-6, 2026.
We look forward to continuing bargaining efforts with each new wave of member engagement.
Our next day at the table is November 16, 2026. You can find all bargaining documents and proposals on our bargaining hub here.
In solidarity,
