Holocaust Education Week is a time to remember, learn and reflect. As trade unionists, we recognize our collective responsibility to confront anti-Jewish hatred, injustice and all forms of discrimination. Learning from the Holocaust and its aftermath strengthens our commitment to solidarity, human rights and ensuring that the dignity of every person is respected.
About the Film
It has been said that it felt as though the souls of the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust were in the room when the meetings began. Jewish and German leaders met in secret to negotiate the unthinkable: compensation for Holocaust survivors. Survivors urgently needed help, but how could reparations be determined for the unprecedented destruction of a people and the atrocities suffered by millions?
Directed by award-winning filmmaker Roberta Grossman, the documentary Reckonings explores this remarkable true story, set in the aftermath of the Holocaust and leading to the groundbreaking Luxembourg Agreements of 1952.
Through archival material and interviews with Holocaust survivors, scholars, dignitaries and the last surviving member of the negotiating delegations, the film examines how political will and moral responsibility helped bridge a seemingly impossible divide.
We look forward to sharing this meaningful event with you.
