OPSEU/SEFPO’s Pay Equity Unit is launching the largest review of pay equity plans since proxy pay equity’s inception in 1993.
Under a proxy plan, an employer with no male job classes uses pay equity information from another employer to determine the required pay adjustments for its female job classes.
This historic, phased review will include more than 160 proxy pay equity plans covering over 16,000 OPSEU/SEFPO members. This review follows a Pay Equity Hearings Tribunal decision last March that provides important new directions on proxy pay equity plans in Ontario.
Beginning this month, Sector 8 Long Term Care Facilities and Sector 13 Municipalities employers with identified proxy plans have received disclosure request letters or notices to bargain. This important work marks a significant step forward in ensuring proxy pay equity plans are reviewed, maintained, and updated to ensure that members are paid in accordance with the Pay Equity Act.
The province-wide review will continue over the coming months. Members are encouraged to contact their staff representative if they have any questions.
