This week, OPSEU/SEFPO broke a story about how over $1 billion of public funds are going to three private companies administering social service programs. We don’t know how much money stays with these companies. But we do know that workers are struggling, services are stretched to the breaking point and not nearly enough “trickles down” to the front lines.

OPSEU/SEFPO’s new report “Open the books. Fund our services.” uncovers that under Premier Ford, the Province set up new billion-dollar “black boxes” obscuring the role of for-profit administrators in delivering public social sercices.
While community, health, and social services face chronic underfunding, more than $1 billion in taxpayer dollars is being funnelled through these private companies. Our message is simple: open the books and fund our services.
Worth Fighting For: striking workers rally at Accerta headquarters
The day after the story broke, striking members in the Worth Fighting For campaign took the fight to the headquarters of one of these companies: Accerta.
Accerta is connected to Ontario Works, Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) and the Ontario Autism Program. Money flowing through Accerta has more than tripled since Ford’s been in office – going from $202.5 million to more than $670 million.
Workers rallied outside Accerta’s headquarters to demand transparency, accountability, and funding for frontline services.
