OPSEU/SEFPO’s Regional meetings are happening this Saturday, March 21. To ensure the meetings run smoothly and everyone is clear on participation guidelines, we’re sharing the following information in advance regarding speaking rights, voting eligibility, and nominations.
What is the purpose of the Regional meetings?
The purpose of the Regional meetings is to elect members to positions on the Executive Board and key committees of the union, listed below. Delegates also elect OPSEU/SEFPO delegates and alternates to attend Conventions of the Canadian Labour Congress, the National Union of Public and General Employees, and the Ontario Federation of Labour.

Who can speak at the mics?
Only delegates, alternates, and observers may speak at the mics.
Who is eligible to vote?
Only delegates are eligible to vote.
Who can be nominated at the meeting for Executive Board and Provincial Committees?
Only delegates. Delegates may be nominated in writing or from the floor. Non‑delegates must be nominated in advance; the deadline for those nominations has already passed.
Who can be nominated for Convention Committees, Regional Hardship Fund Committee, and NUPGE, CLC, and OFL Conventions?
Any member may be nominated, provided their nominator is a delegate.
Who are the automatics for NUPGE, CLC, and OFL Conventions?
Executive Board Members and Provincial Committee delegates.
As per Article 5A.1 in the OPSEU/SEFPO Policy Manual, to be elected at an OPSEU/SEFPO Regional meeting as a Delegate to the OFL, NUPGE or CLC Convention, the Delegate’s local must be affiliated with the District Labour Council unless the Local is principally located more than 60 kms from the Labour Council’s regular meeting location.
Members running for these opportunities must provide proof of affiliation prior to or at the Regional meeting.
