The OPSEU Provincial Women's Committee is encouraging OPSEU members across the province to attend International Women's Day events and take part in “A Day Without a Woman” March 8 in support of equity, justice and human rights for all women and gender-oppressed people.
“A Day Without a Woman” follows the spirit of the March on Washington in recognition of “the enormous value that women of all backgrounds add to our socio-economic system – while receiving lower wages and experiencing greater inequities, vulnerability to discrimination, sexual harassment, and job insecurity.” For more information, click here.
The actions suggested for “A Day Without A Woman” are:
- Women take the day off, from paid and unpaid labor.
- Avoid shopping for one day (with exceptions for small, women- and minority-owned businesses).
- Wear red in solidarity with A Day Without A Woman.
- Call on the government to extend equal pay and adequate paid family leave for women
