Every one of our lives has changed profoundly over the past year.
For many, adapting to and surviving these changes has been an ongoing battle. But standing courageously beside them on the front lines of the pandemic are one of the most important groups of caring professionals in the public sector: social workers.
Often putting their own health and safety at risk, social workers help countless Ontarians to face everything from lost jobs and lost homes, to grief and illness, and to all the extra pressure and anxiety that comes with the lockdowns, bubbling, and social distancing.
The theme of Social Work Week — which runs March 1 to 7 and kicks off Social Work Month — is “You Are Not Alone.”
For the thousands of social workers who belong to OPSEU/SEFPO, you are never alone.
We are proud to represent and support each and every social worker caring for people in hospitals, community health centers, mental health facilities, community mental health, schools, advocacy organizations, social and family service agencies, child welfare settings, correctional facilities, social housing organizations, family courts, employee assistance programs, municipalities, colleges, and private counselling and consultation agencies.
Each of these members provide the professionalism, expertise and compassion that people in our communities need to overcome adversity, grow, and heal.
Join us in thanking social workers for all that they do. We are so incredibly proud of them.
In solidarity,
Warren (Smokey) Thomas
