1,500 OPSEU/SEFPO Court and Client Representatives (CCRs) in the Ministry of the Attorney General (MAG) have won a long-sought victory today! Not only have CCRs won an upgraded reclassification from 09OAD to 10OAD in recognition of the actual scope of their work, which has increased in complexity and responsibility over the years due to the modernization of court services. But the employer has also committed to increasing the number of full-time CCR positions across the province to deal with our front-line staffing shortage. While there is still work to be done for other classifications, this is an historic move that will help stabilize the Ministry’s precarious front-line workforce. OPSEU/SEFPO celebrates this win as a great starting point!

Clerks made it work!
During the pandemic, all Court Services Division staff jumped in and modernized our Ministry’s systems in a matter of weeks and months out of necessity. They kept the justice system going during an incredibly turbulent time. Many of the safety standards they put in place in the Ministry of the Attorney General were used in other workplaces throughout the Ontario Public Service.Court Services Division staff, along with all OPSEU/SEFPO members who work for MAG, are truly the backbone of our justice system.Everyone wins when our members’ scope of work is respected and compensated properly. It’s a win for CCRs whose work is better compensated. And it’s not only a win for the employer but the public as well when there is a permanent workforce ready to provide skilled, dedicated service on the front lines of our justice system.
Next steps
The new CCR job description will come into effect on March 20, 2023, and CCRs will see their first pay increase on April 13, 2023, the first paycheque of the new fiscal year.MAG members’ elected union representatives on the Ministry Employee Relations Committee (MERC) are committed to working on behalf of all members in MAG to ensure that their positions are classified and compensated properly, and that they move from precarious work to permanent positions with job security. This victory is the result OPSEU/SEFPO members standing together and demanding recognition from the employer for the work we do. This is just the beginning!
