On April 6, Chair of OPSEU’s Corrections Division, Chris Jackel appeared as part of a panel on TVO’s The Agenda to address COVID-19 as it relates to Ontario’s crowded prison system and the risks posed to corrections officers, inmates, and the public.
Jackel spoke about a number of issues facing corrections officers as they struggle to stay safe within their very confined workplaces.
Host Steve Paiken and members of the panel, which included Lee Chapelle, President of Canadian Prison Consulting, an advocacy and reform-based firm; and Kim Pate, an independent Senator in Ontario, spoke from their homes using video conferencing to respect social distancing practices.
