I have the pleasure of working with new immigrants to settle into their new lives in Canada. It is rewarding for me as a Language instructor for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) and English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor to be part of their new lives in Canada. I, along with my colleagues, provide our adult learners with support to overcome barriers and obstacles.
These learners unfortunately are experiencing difficulties with the recent challenges with the switch to remote learning. Limitations with the English language, along with limited access to technology required to participate online inhibits their ability to attend and engage in fulsome learning. This further alienates them from full integration and pursuing their goals of post-secondary education, employment, and self-fulfillment.
I as a LINC and ESL instructor, care deeply for my learners and continuously advocate to school and government officials to ensure the learners have access to the resources necessary for success.
