The Coalition of Racialized Workers (CORW) is working to extend the work of the caucus across OPSEU/SEFPO’s regions. We would like to invite all racialized members in Regions 3 & 7 to join us as we create these regional chapters.
Creating these regional chapters is a part of the CORW’s strategic plan. It is to engage racialized OPSEU/SEFPO members. It is also in keeping with the 2019 Social Mapping Project (SMP) which recognizes that in order to create an inclusive union for Ontario’s increasingly diverse workforce, the identification and removal of all barriers to participation must be an organizational priority.
If you live or work in the communities of the above-mentioned regions and you believe in the vision of the Coalition, we invite you to submit an application as soon as possible but no later than 5 pm on August 15, 2021. In your application, we ask that you showcase your past and current work and interests in working with racialized communities.
The CoRW seeks to truly represent members who identify as racialized. It is especially important now more than ever to organize to further these actions, especially when politicians like Doug Ford take a “colour blind” approach to racism and race-based complaints against employers. This approach only serves to further marginalize vulnerable communities and precarious workers.
We must take the lead in building a multi-racial, anti-racist response to the political agendas that continue to perpetuate these practices.
Please submit your interest to OPSEU/SEFPO Equity Unit at equity@opseu.org no later than 5pm on August 15, 2021.
