Family Day is a popular and much-needed holiday. Ever since Sunday shopping was allowed in 1992, families have found it increasingly hard to find a day to come together for activities, travel or just to enjoy one another’s company.
Family Day is a recognition of the vital role the family continues to play in terms of stability and happiness. It’s something that OPSEU fully recognizes.
That’s why, in every contract we negotiate, OPSEU keeps in mind the needs of the family, whether it’s bargaining an improved work-life balance, better drug and dental benefits, or higher wages to keep food on the table. In the face of corporate greed – and a provincial government eager to reward the rich and punish the poor – unions like OPSEU are among the few remaining institutions fighting for families and family life.
In fact, we think of OPSEU as a family. Although we may disagree on certain things from time to time, we respect and value one another, and we realize we’re much stronger together than apart. And so we stick together through thick and thin, good times and bad.
From our OPSEU family to your family, we wish you a very happy Family Day.
In solidarity,
Warren (Smokey) Thomas, President of OPSEU
Eduardo (Eddy) Almeida, OPSEU First Vice-President/Treasurer
