TORONTO – Staff in Ontario’s provincial correctional facilities are bracing for even more jail overcrowding under new federal crime legislation.
LONDON – Five days of escalating inmate tensions inside the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre is putting the health and safety of correctional officers at risk, says the union that represents staff at the facility.
The Ministry of Health and Long Term Care is sending inspectors out to conduct investigations which they are not educated and trained to do says the Ontario Public Service Employees Union. Nursing home residents are being placed at risk to save money on inspection.
