Strength and respect

With more than 8,000 education workers in school boards across the province, OPSEU/SEFPO knows your work and knows your employer. We’ll help you bargain – and enforce – contracts that are as strong as you.

What happens next?

  • Once you’ve signed your OPSEU/ SEFPO card, encourage your co-workers to do the same. The more quickly a large majority of you sign cards, the more quickly you’ll become members!
  • Watch your personal email and texts for upcoming Zoom meetings and updates from OPSEU/SEFPO.
  • Once a strong majority of you have signed cards, OPSEU/SEFPO makes an application to the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) to schedule a vote for you to vote yes to join OPSEU/ SEFPO.
  • On March 7, 2022, OPSEU/SEFPO filed the application, starting the “freeze provision.” This means you’re protected — it is against the law for your employer to change any of your current employment terms while negotiations are underway.
  • March 15 noon- March 17 noon the OLRB will hold a secret-ballot vote amongst you and your co-workers. When the majority of you vote to join OPSEU/SEFPO, you become members!
  • With the help and guidance of OPSEU/ SEFPO staff you will vote on your bargaining team & you and all your
co-workers will decide on your bargaining priorities – better wages, health and safety protections, and a legal voice to be heard and respected!
  • You and OPSEU/SEFPO staff will bargain your first Collective Agreement!
