OPSEU/SEFPO members joined the Global Climate Strike rally today at Queen’s Park, organized and led by student activists of Fridays for Future Toronto.
Labour allies gathered beforehand at the nearby Steelworkers Hall and marched to Queen’s Park together to join the larger rally of students, social justice, environmental, community and faith groups, to demand climate justice for all. They called for a just transition to a zero-carbon economy, recognizing that while the climate crisis affects all of us, it impacts Indigenous, racialized, working class, gender-diverse and disabled members of our communities the hardest.
Children, students and young workers have the most stake in what happens to the climate, and they are demanding meaningful action now to turn the climate crisis around. OPSEU/SEFPO stands with them in calling for a transformation of our economy to one of good, green jobs and a strong public sector, where people and climate justice are centred rather than corporate profits.
Fridays for Future held Global Climate Strikes across Ontario and around the world today – stay tuned to FridaysforFuture.org for upcoming actions.
