January 21st is the 6th anniversary of the Women’s March movement, uniting women and allies globally in the fight for women’s rights, LGBT rights, racial equality and civil rights.
From January 21st until International Women’s Day on March 8th, Women’s March Global is running its virtual 2022 campaign: “We Won’t Back Down”. This year’s campaign aims to unite all women in the fight for equality and continue to build solidarity globally.
Women’s March began in 2017, the day after the inauguration of former US President Donald Trump, when millions of women and allies around the world took to the streets to protest against systems of oppression, using their collective power to achieve social justice. Since then, Women’s March Global has continued to use nonviolent resistance to educate, organize, and mobilize human rights activists.
OPSEU/SEFPO stands in solidarity with the Women’s March movement in defense of women’s human rights globally and remains committed to fighting for gender equality. We encourage everyone to visit the Women’s March Global website to find out how to join the #WeWontBackDown movement.
In Solidarity,
Warren (Smokey) Thomas, OPSEU/SEFPO President
Eduardo (Eddy) Almeida, OPSEU/SEFPO First Vice-President/Treasurer
Dianne Clarabut, Chair of OPSEU/SEFPO Provincial Women’s Committee
