October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). It recognizes all individuals who live with a disability, whether visible or invisible. The purpose of NDEAM is to raise awareness and create an understanding that having a disability may require support and acceptance so that everyone can be part of a workplace that treats everyone with dignity and respect. We also need to foster an accessible and inclusive environment. This includes reviewing workplace policies, advocating for structural change or having a conversation with others. People who don’t live with a disability can also play an important role in contributing to a culture of societal inclusion in the workplace. We all recognize that not all disabilities are seen or evident. Mental health, chronic illness, vision, or auditory conditions also fall into the hidden realm of disabilities.
On October 20, 2022, show your solidarity by wearing purple and blue to celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
