We wanted to share with you the results of our Bill 124 Wage Reopener settlement with the College Employer Council (CEC) for the College Part-Time Support staff.
This is the result of a long process that began in November 2022 when the Ford government’s Bill 124, Protecting a Sustainable Public Sector for Future Generations Act, 2019 was declared unconstitutional. Following that decision, we engaged the wage reopener clause that was negotiated into our current collective agreement (in effect from February 1, 2021, to January 31, 2024).
The team is grateful to everyone who showed support in countless ways, including by wearing blue on Wednesday.
Your participation sent a powerful message during the negotiations!
We can report that Wednesdy’s nine-hour negotiation session included constructive dialogue. We put our issues forward so that the employer better understands the needs of our Part-Time unit, which will assist us in our renewal bargaining.
Details of the Settlement:
3% as of February 1st, 2021 (includes the previously received 1%)
3% as of February 1st, 2022 (includes the previously received 1%)
3.5% as of February 1st, 2023 (includes the previously received 1%)
All current employees will receive retroactive compensation by December 31st, 2023.
Further details on retroactive compensation for former employees will be provided soon.
This favourable outcome aligns with the wage reopener settlements achieved by Faculty and Full-Time Support staff divisions.
The unwavering support of the Part Time division, along with the broader unity of the unions who fought Bill 124 in court and the solidarity of our Faculty and Full Time Support staff divisions, provided the framework for this success.
As we prepare for the upcoming bargaining process let’s continue to stand in solidarity!
