The OPSEU Equity Chairs and members of the Executive Board gathered for the annual Joint Leadership Day on September 25, 2018. It was a day of strategic planning focused on organizing and mobilizing equity groups to resist the Ford government’s threats to workers.
President Warren (Smokey) Thomas addressed the leaders in the room after each equity chair presented their group’s strategic plan.
“In the face of these threats, we must build a multi-year movement to protect the rights of all workers,” said Thomas. “Equity groups are a crucial part of this movement.”
The equity groups gave a commitment to support a year of campaigns and actions to mobilize those most affected by government cuts to participate in Days of Action.
They also committed to increase communications with OPSEU members who identify as Indigenous, racialized, women, LGBTTIAPQQ2S, francophones, young workers, persons with disabilities, and their allies.
The first concerted action is to take part in the October 23 Health Care Rally organized by the Ontario Health Coalition.
