Union members still looking for fair and reasonable offer from Peterborough Health Unit

PETERBOROUGH — Members of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union Local 327 at the Peterborough County-City Health Unit have overwhelmingly rejected a proposed contract offer by the employer and are still looking for a fair and reasonable settlement after months of negotiations.

On Tuesday night, the members voted 93 per cent against the new contract offered by the management representatives of the Health Unit.

Local 327 President Jane Hoffmeyer said her members clearly felt that the proposed settlement just wasn"t good enough. "We sincerely hope the employer will return to the table to work towards an agreement that respects the work that we do," Hoffmeyer said.

OPSEU President Warren (Smokey) Thomas said OPSEU stands in full support of these members. "These workers provide vital services to the people of Peterborough and surrounding area," Thomas said. "The employer needs to recognize that fact, and put forward a contract offer in keeping with it."

OPSEU Local 327 represents Public Health Nutritionists, Dental Hygienists, Infant Development Workers and Health Promoters. They have been without a contract since March 2013.
